Q1. What is needed to rent the property?
The first half of the total rent is due with the signed contract agreement.
The remaining amount plus security deposit is due 10 business days before your arrival.
Q2. What payment methods are accepted?
For Dominican guests, we accept payments via PayPal or wire transfer to our bank in the Dominican Republic or to our US bank.
For US guests, we accept payments via Zelle and Venmo.
For European guests, we accept payments via PayPal or wire transfer to our Dominican Republic or US bank.
Q3. Do you provide a contract for us?
Yes, we can provide a written contract with terms.
Q4. Is there a security damage deposit?
Yes, the security deposit is USD$300.00, and it is returned within 5 business days after check-out providing there are no damages to the property.
In over 15 years of renting, I have always returned the full security damage deposit.
Note that the initial deposit made for holding a reservation is NOT the same as a security damage deposit.
Q5. Is Las Terrenas and Samaná safe? What should I expect as to safety and security?
The whole Samana peninsula is actually one of the safest place on the island of Dominican Republic.
POLITUR (now named SECTUR ) is the Tourism Police force in Las Terrenas, with more than 60 agents patrolling the Samana Peninsula, villages, streets and beaches.
Within Samaná, Playa Las Ballenas is one of the safest places. We have a small tourism police station within a minute of our penthouse. The main beach police station is maybe 5 more minutes walking. Yes. The tourist police is omnipresent throughout the beaches, and even other areas in town.
Of course, you should always be aware of your surroundings. But you will feel absolutely safe and right at home, even at night.
Q6. Is there an air conditioner in each of the bedrooms?
Yes, there is an air conditioner in each of the bedrooms. Plus, each bedroom has a large ceiling fan.
We also provide a standing fan that can be placed in any room.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
There is a charge for air conditioner usage. We have meters to track air conditioning usage.
Setting the air conditioners too cold may freeze the air conditioner.
Q7. Is there an air conditioner in the two living rooms?
Yes, each living room has a functional air conditioner. The 4th floor living room has TWO gigantic ceiling fans.
We also provide a standing fan that can be placed in any room.
Q8. Do you recommend renting a car?
You will NOT need to rent a car due to our prime location. Our penthouse is walking distance to most places.
But ultimately, it is a matter of preference.
Some families want a rental car to get around to other Las Terrenas places.
While many guests prefer to rent an ATV during their stay.
OTHER NOTES:
A rental car may be nice so you can visit nearby tourist attractions and other beaches. I can provide two reliable alternatives for driving you or to rent a car for the day.
Q9. How far is our Blue Penthouse from the Dominican airports?
We are located about 25 minutes from El Catey International Airport (AZS), which is located in Samana.
We are approximately 1.5 to 2 hours from Las Americas International Airport in Santo Domingo (SDQ). This is using the Boulevard Turistico del Atlantico Highway.
We are only 10 minutes from El Portillo Airport (EPS).
I am not sure as to drive time from Santiago Airport.
Hint:
Book earlier flight so you can enjoy the scenic ride through the beautiful Dominican roadways and the mountains road provides amazing scenic views of the virgin beaches below.
Q10. Does our Blue Penthouse have Wi-Fi?
Yes, our townhouse has reliable high-speed fiber-optic Wi-Fi, which we have measure at over 70 Mbps.
Other places may have difficulties with bandwidth depending on weather, traffic, and provider issues.
Q11. What is the best for local Dominican communication and to back home?
I recommend downloading and using WhatsApp. Most locals have WhatsApp on their cellphones.
Plus, you will be able to share your experience with others back home easily via WhatsApp.
Q12. Can a cook and housemaid be hired? If so what is the cost?
Yes, a cook can be hired either per day or to cook specific meal(s).
Please keep in mind you will need to purchase groceries

Q13. What other services do you offer?
Upon request, our property caretaker can purchase groceries and stock the refrigerator with your favorite items before your arrival.
We can also arrange for a reliable driver to pick you up from any of the airports (Las Americas Airport in Santo Domingo and El Catey in Samana).
If you have a need for other services during your stay, we are happy to see if we can accommodate.
Q14. How far is the closest grocery store?
The closest grocery store is about a 5-minutes.
I can also recommend and give you directions to our favorite local larger stores.
Q15. How far is the closest seafood market?
There is a seafood market with a 5-minute walk. This market is in front of where fishermen go out and come back, so they usually have fresh fish to sell.
The fishermen go out super-early in the morning in Las Ballenas beach. I can provide an overview map of the location. You cannot miss it.
Q16. Where do fishing excursions leave from?
The various fishing, snorkeling, diving, and special Samana tours leave from 2-minute walk. You can see the boats from our terrace.
I am working to organize deals with reliable trusted excursion partners.
Q17. Are mosquitos and other insects an issue?
No. Unlike other apartments or villas, we have not had issues with insects. All our windows are fitted with new screens.
Our community does do regular fumigation. But, when out of the apartment we recommend that you bring a bottle of insect repellent.
Q18. Are there restaurants within walking distance of the property?
Yes, there are many, many local and international restaurants nearby. Most places are only 2 to 10 minutes walking distance from our penthouse.
There are also food delivery services available. I will supply a handy chart with contacts.
Q19. Is the water safe to drink?
Most people, including the locals, drink water that’s been filtered.
We provide a water cooler with a large, bottled water that you should use for drinking and cooking.
Once that 1st bottle is empty, you will need to request and pay for the replacement bottle.
Q20. Do you supply a BBQ and other cooking stuff?
Yes, our BBQ with the attached propane tank is in the terrace area.
Our kitchen has everything that you will need to cook your own meals. Of course, you must shop for your food supplies.
Q20. Is the pool shared?
Yes, you will be able to enjoy multiple pool withing our community.
At each side of the pools are outdoor showers to allow you to rinse off.
Q21. Does pool have a heated jacuzzi area?
Yes, upon request the jacuzzi area can be heated for you and your friends/family. This first-come, first-serve.
We are that you tip the maintenance person for special requests.
Q22. Can I get help with carrying suitcases to the apartment?
Yes, upon your arrival or as you depart, you can ask our onsite local support team for assistance.

Q23. Are there ATM’s or banks available in Las Terrenas?

The Dominican Republic and Las Terrenas use the North American Standard 3 way plug – 110 Volts.

Playa Las Terrenas beach ~ “Las Terrenas Beach” is the main stretch of beach starting from the Fisherman’s Village (Pueblo Los Pescadores) with many kilometers of golden sand beaches, crystal clear waters and coral reef banks.
Punta Poppy beach ~ Is one of the most popular beaches very close to downtown Las Terrenas. It’s also a favorite Kite Surfing spot.
Playa Bonita beach ~ Located about 5 kilometers from downtown Las Terrenas, this beautiful long beach is quiet and secluded.
Playa Rincon beach ~ Considered as one of the most beautiful beaches in Dominican Republic, this exceptional and very secluded 3 kms long white sand beach is located about 75 kms from Las Terrenas.
Playa Fronton & Playa Madame ~ Totally spectacular and very secluded, these 2 beaches are located about 70 kms from Las Terrenas and are about 12 minutes away by boat (boat to hire) from the main beach in Las Galeras.
Just ask any owners of boats there (plenty to choose from, about 20 boats available) the best price to get there.
Q28 - Are there flights from the Samana International Airport (AZS)?
Yes, The Samana AZS Intl. Airport has been open since November 2006. But the number of flights is limited. You will most likely have better luck by checking Las Americas International Airport in Santo Domingo, which is about 2 hours away.
The Samana AZS Intl. Airport is located about 25 kilometers (15 miles) from the village of Las Terrenas.
